Well, it was a tough weekend for sports fans, unless you were following the RSS Cross-Country Running team. This season, as a team, our Senior Girls won the North Zones, they won the Okanagan Valley Championships, and on Saturday morning, they made it a 'Triple Crown' and won the World Series of running: Provincials.
The conditions were slick, but the girls were quick. In the Single 'A' category, Maya won the gold medal and is the Provincial Champion. Zoey Crosby brought home the bronze, Ember Smith was 4th, Willow Brown was 7th, Fiona Woodman was 9th, and Autumn Baechler, in her first Provincials ever, impressed us all by finishing in the top 30.
Together as a team, they were crowned Provincial Champions for Single A schools, and it is a testament to their strength to note that the combined race times of these RSS girls beat every SR Girls team (A, AA, and AAA) in BC.
On the Senior Boys' side, Dominic Wagner also cracked the top 30 with a 27th place finish.
Congratulations to all of our runners, and a special thank-you to the Senior Girls for their hard work and determination, for their historic win, and for bringing home a brand new blue banner to decorate our gym wall.
