Valley Championships

The Valleys is coming up on Tuesday, October 25th, and it will be held in West Kelowna at the Telemark Nordic Ski Club.

Webcam Link to the Stadium: https://telemarknordic.com/current-trail-conditions/

The race starts at 11:30 am, so we will need to leave Revelstoke at 6:45am and we will be gone all day. Please show up 10 minutes early (6:35am), so we can be organized and ready to leave at 6:45 sharp.

Bring lots of food and snacks because the races start at 11:30am and we will be at the race until awards are done at 1:30pm.

Race organizers have indicated that it could snow the night before the race and they have warned athletes to "pack twice as much clothes as they think they need.  Dry clothes for after the race, toques, gloves, puffy coats, blankets to sit on and wrap up in."

It should be a fun day.  Come and see me in the library if you have any questions!  :)

Here is the information from the race organizers:

  1. Registration table will be open at 10:00 and located in main stadium area.  There will be envelopes available for each school's coach to pick up and distribute to their athletes.  Please have payment for your school ready at time of package pickup.  If you have athletes planning on arriving before you (or with a parent if coaches are not attending), please designate one parent to pay for/pickup your school's package.
  2. It is looking COLD on Tuesday. Overnight lows of 0 with some precipitation means snow is possible.  All part of the fun of XC!!  However, please tell your athletes to pack twice as much clothes as they think they need.  Dry clothes for after the race, toques, gloves, puffy coats, blankets to sit on and wrap up in.  We DO NOT have access to the lodge so we are outside for the day.  There will be an area for teams to set up tents so bring those if available.
  3. Great news!!  Cross country is making a comeback in the Okanagan.  We have 50% more runners registered than last year.  Not so great news...our berthing numbers are based on a rolling average over the last few years.  Our qualification spots should go up next year based on our 2022 numbers but it will be more challenging for athletes to qualify this year, unless you are a Sr Boy.  Here are the stats:
    1. Jr Boys - 110 racers, 14 teams.
      • 9 individual and 3 team spots available.
    2. Jr Girls - 91 racers, 10 teams.
      • 10 individual and 3 team spots available.
    3. Sr Boys - 38 racers, 4 teams.
      • 8 individual and 2 team spots available
    4. Sr Girls - 61 racers, 8 teams.
      • 9 individual and 1 team spot available.
  1. Awards are scheduled for 1:00. We will run as close to schedule as possible but increased numbers mean that our results tabulations/team scorings are going to take a bit longer than usual.  Please be patient - we will work as fast as we can but want to make sure our results are accurate before the awards presentations.
  2. Pennants will be awarded to top 2 teams in each category.  Ribbons to top 10 individuals in each category.
  3. Any further updates/final results (not live) will be uploaded to our league website under the OVSAA Tab.  Address is www.sd23crosscountry.weebly.com
